TEDxAdventures: Exploring Ideas Beyond the Stage
At TEDxSingapore, we believe that the best way to explore fresh perspectives and spark curiosity is through immersive experiences. This year, we introduced TEDxAdventures—a unique extension of our main event that invites you to step beyond the stage, engage with new ideas, and forge deeper connections with fellow adventurers. Designed to be hands-on, each adventure is co-curated and led by our speakers, offering exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to the ideas shared by our speakers.
This year’s TEDxAdventures featured three incredible tracks.
Khir Johari led a sensory heritage journey through Geylang Serai market, taking attendees on a vibrant exploration of Malay ingredients and cuisine. We discovered the cultural stories embedded in local food, including dishes with Egyptian influences that sparked fascinating conversations about culinary heritage and the global threads interwoven in our own backyard. We ended the session at Geylang Serai Food Centre, located just above the market and indulged in a delicious spread of local dishes including laksa, rojak and gado-gado.
Rebecca Toh hosted us in her Casual Poet Library and walked us through her inspirational story. We then went for a reflective humanity walk in the neighbourhood surrounding the library. This adventure created a quiet, contemplative space, allowing us to engage with Rebecca’s community and the stories hidden within it. Through this journey, we found a renewed appreciation for the connections between people, places, and the narratives that shape our sense of belonging.
Sun Yao Yu introduced us to the art of letterpress printing in a hands-on workshop. This adventure was different from the rest, held indoors at the Printmaking Studio at the National Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). This workshop offered a tactile connection to the craft of traditional printmaking, allowing us to immerse in the history while reflecting on its relevance in the digital age. The creative process left us with not only an appreciation for the art form but our their own printed keepsakes.
TEDxAdventures are opportunities for audiences to engage beyond the stage through events that include participatory elements and local perspectives. We invite the audience to step into the stories, cultures, and creative processes shared by our speakers. These experiences reminded us of the profound connections that emerge when we engage directly with ideas and with each other. From tasting heritage, to walking through untold narratives, to crafting history by hand, TEDxAdventures left us not just with new insights but with a renewed sense of wonder, inspiring us to explore the world with curiosity and intention.
