A snapshot of the ideas championed at The Spaces Between.

We started with a blank space. As curators, we thought of the spaces needed for art, music, community, science, and what’s happening in our world today. So we traversed, we explored like the brave explorers we are, and brought you along on our journey.

Charu Kokate

We explored conversations which pushed the imagination from what could be, to make a better, more sustainable way of living, to become a reality for the community which lives in it.

Cesar Jung-Harada

We explored conversations which pushed the imagination from what could be, to make a better, more sustainable way of living, to become a reality for the community which lives in it.

Kong Man Jing (MJ)

We explored conversations that brought a love for science from an individual to touching the lives of the young, and the old, leveraging social media platforms as a start, to growing a community of followers — to inspiring them to continue “Just Keep Thinking”!

Ben Choo and Jesher Loi

We explored simple everyday conversations about coffee. The origins of which make up the breakfast culture of Singapore today, and how the evolving tastes, digitalisation and changes of the community will keep evolving how people buy, consume and appreciate this everyday staple.

The conversations at The Spaces Between revolved around the most important mediums of Art & Music.

Kenneth Ong

Rex Lee

From comics which transcribe 1,000 year old wisdom to be relevant today, to Theremin which sounds from outer space that’s picking up in popularity and has given the artist a space to create, be inspired and inspire others.

Lim Tze Peng

Art is ever changing, ever elusive even to a 100 plus year old cultural medallion and decorated artist who pushes the boundaries and creates every, single, day.

shazza

We explored the power of music to create unity in diversity and the spaces in which we can create moving arts that transcend traditional boundaries and connect people on a deeper, emotional level.

The Finger Players

Written and directed by one of Singapore’s renowned theatre director and playwright, Oliver Chong, Between an Apple and a Face tells a story of a woman with a simple desire: to see the world in all its beauty. As she scours the land for a face to call her own, she soon realises that in spite of all the happiness the world had to offer, it was accompanied by darkness, pain and loss. With this realisation, she eventually decides to continue living in the space between…

TED Fellows

Dr Edsel Salvaña shared how his TED Fellowship experience allowed him to gain the necessary communication skills to translate his scientific research into concrete change and action within the HIV space.

Kishore Mahbubani

We explored Singapore’s role within ASEAN, one of the most peaceful regions in the world despite its many differences, in the context of an increasingly fractured and polarising global geopolitical era.

Aurvi Jain

Lastly, we were challenged to be a part of our community, challenged to have bit of hope of what the future could be, in today’s tenuous political and evolving geopolitical landscape.

We hope you’ve enjoyed the spaces between and continue to keep challenging your own.
